Hong Kong True Light College is a Christian girls' secondary school in Ap Lei Chau, continuing the True Light tradition of women's education in Hong Kong. Guided by the motto Thou Art the Light of the World, the school promotes balanced development in moral, intellectual, social, aesthetic, physical and spiritual domains. It also emphasises service, creativity, excellence and sisterly support among students.

Medium of Instruction & Curriculum

Chinese is the primary Medium of Instruction (MOI).

Curriculum: Secondary education comprises three years of junior secondary and three years of senior secondary education leading to the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education (HKDSE) Examination.

Teaching Language Policy: There are four classes in each of S.1 to S.3. Some classes adopt English as the medium of instruction, while the other classes adopt both Chinese and English as the medium of instruction. All S.1 and S.2 students use English as the medium of instructions in Science and STEAM in order to enhance students' English proficiency.

Secondary One Admission

The Secondary School Places Allocation (SSPA) System is Hong Kong's official mechanism for distributing subsidized Secondary One places to primary school graduates. The allocation operates in two distinct, consecutive phases. First, the Discretionary Places (DP) stage allows students to apply directly to individual schools based on academic and interview merits. Second, remaining places are funneled into the Central Allocation (CA) stage, which is subdivided into Part A (unrestricted, territory-wide choices) and Part B (restricted, district-based choices). School Fees

This is an aided school, the most common type of secondary school in Hong Kong. Aided schools account for approximately 76% of all secondary schools and receive government funding to provide free secondary education. No school fee is charged. By comparison, around 12% are DSS schools, 6% are government schools, and 5% are private schools. Only DSS and private schools generally charge school fees.

School Facilities

Air-conditioners, computers and projectors are installed in all classrooms and the school hall. A performing arts theatre is newly developed in 2019. A new library, learning commons and 30 newly renovated classrooms are developed in 2020. A new multi-purpose room is developed in 2021. The Home-Economic Room has been completely renovated in 2023. The new biological research laboratory established in the 2025 academic year. The school's premises houses a Computer-Assisted Learning Centre, a multi-medium Learning Centre, a School Archives and a multi-Purpose Room, a Student Activity Centre, a Gymnasium, an Orchestra Practice Room, a Student Union Room, a Prefects’ Room as well as various conference and interview rooms for students to enjoy a better learning environment. There is an all-weather running track, a sandpit, a multi-purpose training area for tennis, softball and volleyball practices together with a piece of grass plot for field events training.
