Shatin Pui Ying College is a Christian co-educational aided secondary school founded in 1978 as part of the Pui Ying education tradition. Established to mark Pui Ying's centenary, the school follows the motto Faith, Hope and Love and the philosophy of holistic education. Located in Wo Che Estate, it emphasizes English learning, Christian values, academic achievement, leadership, service, music, sports and whole-person development.

Medium of Instruction & Curriculum

English is the primary Medium of Instruction (MOI).

Curriculum: Secondary education comprises three years of junior secondary and three years of senior secondary education leading to the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education (HKDSE) Examination.

Teaching Language Policy: In junior forms, with the exception of Chinese-related subjects, Citizenship, Economics and Society & Religious Education (Christianity), all classes are taught in English. With an emphasis on using English as the medium of instruction, students develop bilingual abilities. Drama classes are arranged and taught in English to boost students' confidence and develop their foundational skills, such as concentration, imagination, observation, team spirit, communication and collaboration skills.

Secondary One Admission

The Secondary School Places Allocation (SSPA) System is Hong Kong's official mechanism for distributing subsidized Secondary One places to primary school graduates. The allocation operates in two distinct, consecutive phases. First, the Discretionary Places (DP) stage allows students to apply directly to individual schools based on academic and interview merits. Second, remaining places are funneled into the Central Allocation (CA) stage, which is subdivided into Part A (unrestricted, territory-wide choices) and Part B (restricted, district-based choices). School Fees

This is an aided school, the most common type of secondary school in Hong Kong. Aided schools account for approximately 76% of all secondary schools and receive government funding to provide free secondary education. No school fee is charged. By comparison, around 12% are DSS schools, 6% are government schools, and 5% are private schools. Only DSS and private schools generally charge school fees.

School Facilities

The school periodically upgrades the existing facilities on campus, including the Music Room, restrooms, the lighting system in the school hall, and adding LED screens. To ensure a vibrant school life for students, the four laboratories, the Visual Arts Room, the STEM Hub, the Home Economics Room, the Self-Study Room, the Chapel, the Multimedia Music Laboratory, the Bio-technology Laboratory, School History Gallery, Lecture Theatre, Roof Garden, Ecology Fishpond and solar panels have been built. Moreover, the installation of fans along the corridors on the ground floor and air-conditioners in the covered playground has also contributed to the betterment of the school environment. Aiming at providing students with an accommodating learning environment, the school conducted a renovation project this summer in which the school installed a new ventilation system in all classrooms, and renovated the library and the air-conditioning system in the School Hall.
