Medium of Instruction & Curriculum

Chinese is the primary Medium of Instruction (MOI).

Curriculum: Secondary education comprises three years of junior secondary and three years of senior secondary education leading to the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education (HKDSE) Examination.

Teaching Language Policy: To equip students with biliteracy and trilingual proficiency for their further study and career opportunities, strengthening their proficiency in English, Chinese and Putonghua is one of our major concerns. In junior form, extended learning activities in English is implemented in all subjects, except Chinese Language, Putonghua, Chinese History and Technology and Living to provide students with more exposure to English. In senior forms, electives are taught in either Chinese and English to cater for students' need and ability.

Secondary One Admission

The Secondary School Places Allocation (SSPA) System is Hong Kong's official mechanism for distributing subsidized Secondary One places to primary school graduates. The allocation operates in two distinct, consecutive phases. First, the Discretionary Places (DP) stage allows students to apply directly to individual schools based on academic and interview merits. Second, remaining places are funneled into the Central Allocation (CA) stage, which is subdivided into Part A (unrestricted, territory-wide choices) and Part B (restricted, district-based choices). The table below summarises past years’ allocation figures, including DP places, Central Allocation Part A and Part B places, reserved places, and total places.

Government schools account for approximately 6% of all secondary schools in Hong Kong and provide free secondary education. No school fee is charged. Among the other school types, around 76% are aided schools, 12% are DSS schools, and 5% are private schools. Only DSS and private schools generally charge school fees.
